1 cup almonds, peeled and soaked, or cashews, soaked
3 large dates, preferably Medjool, pitted and soaked for 1 to 3 hours
3 cups water
2 tbsps Big Tree Farms’ Coconut Nectar, a healthier alternative to honey
1/4 cup Big Tree Farms’ Cacao Powder
1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 tsp Big Tree Farms’ Balinese Sea Salt, or to taste
30g Big Tree Farms’ Organic Dark “Wonder” Chocolate
A pinch of cinnamon and chili powder
Soak almonds or cashews overnight in water. Drain and rinse very well.
Place almonds or cashews, dates, and water in a high-speed blender with the coconut nectar, cacao powder, vanilla extract and sea salt. Blend until very smooth.
Transfer the mixture to a medium pot and add the dark chocolate, broken into small pieces. On low fire, heat the liquid, without letting it boil or overheat, until the chocolate is melted. Stir and allow it to thicken up.
For an Asian twist, sprinkle a bit of cinnamon and chili powder on top. You may also garnish with shaved chocolate.
